It has now been more than 750 days since any hurricane has made landfall in the US. This is one of the longest periods on record. Assuming that none do the rest of the current season, the quiesced period will almost certainly continue for at least 1,000 days.

The only three year period without hurricanes in US history was around the time of the Civil War.

It has also been 18 years since a category 5 hurricane struck the US.

From Scientific American, 2007

Stronger Link Found between Hurricanes and Global Warming
A century’s worth of records suggests that hurricanes are on the rise and a warming Atlantic is to blame

“Even if we take the extreme of these error estimates, we are left with a significant trend since 1890 and a significant trend in major hurricanes starting anytime before 1920,” say atmospheric scientists Greg Holland of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., and Peter Webster of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Sci-Fi American style doomsday reporting has hit Floridians hard. I do not live there but have family who do. High insurance rates for homeowners, if they can get it. Additional devaluation of property and then there are the generators and storm shutters purchased because Floridians were told unequivocably that the storms would be more frequent and more intense. When does this become yelling "fire" in a crowded theater.

Hi Gator.

Do you remember I mentioned a couple of months ago about the film 'Deep Impact' which gets shown quite frequently here in the UK, well it was on TV yet agin over the weekend, I thought I was going crazy, this has got to have been the shortest span of time ever since it's last screening, a matter of 2 months, we don't have nearly as many channels here in Britain as the US so it's not as if it was a different network, it was on one of the BBC channels as it was the alst time.

I think someone is palying a little game with us.

Funny, it could be.

Ho hum

Hey Joker! In the movie, wasn't the president of the US named "Beck"? That probably scares the lefties more than the 7 mile wide meteor!
