Climate change skeptic fired from university
Professor Nicholas Drapela. Photo: KVALAn Oregon State University professor has been dismissedfrom his job in the chemistry department after making repeated statements that global warming alarmism should not be taken seriously.
Nicholas Drapela had been employed by the public college for over 10 years when he was fired abruptly on May 29 without any explanation other than a prepared script by the school's administrator.
As Drapela describes it, the administrator simply:
“Read a prepared statement and took my key.”
Though he has made repeated calls to administrative staff for a better rationale regarding his termination, the college's executives have refused to explain, instead forcing him to go through numerous secretaries without delivering a response.
After a long career which included the authoring of several textbooks and the winning of a teaching award, Drapela began giving speeches in 2007 expressing skepticism about the severity of global warming.
His firing leaves a void in the university's chemistry department, which will be employing four new professors to help in the 2012-2013 year.
