US Biofuel Production Should Be Suspended, UN Says

Written by Dr. Benny Peiser, GWPF.

800pxnesjavellirpowerplxThe United Nations (UN) food agency has called on the United States to suspend its production of biofuel ethanol. Under US law, 40% of the corn harvest must be used to make biofuel, a quota which the UN says could contribute to a food crisis around the world. A drought and heatwave across the US has destroyed much of the country's corn crop, driving up prices. The US argues that producing much of its own fuel, rather than importing it, is good for the country. --BBC News, 10 August 2012

The most promising renewable energy of all is making pro-renewable Greens frightened and angry. It’s geothermal energy, which taps into the natural warmth below Earth's surface, providing an abundant heat source. The problem? New geothermal techniques requires hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, and environmental crusaders have convinced themselves that fracking is evil. --Andrew Orlowski, The Register, 11 August 2012

Anyone impressed by the efficient way in which Britain has organised the Olympic Games might consider the stark contrast provided by the shambles of our national energy policy – wholly focused as it is on the belief that we can somehow keep our lights on by building tens of thousands more wind turbines within eight years. At one point last week, Britain’s 3,500 turbines were contributing 12 megawatts (MW) to the 38,000MW of electricity we were using. (The Neta website, which carries official electricity statistics, registered this as “0.0 per cent”). --Christopher Booker, The Sunday Telegraph, 12 August 2012

MPs are plotting to overthrow the Conservative chairman of the energy and climate change committee because of his links to the green power industry. Tory MP Tim Yeo rakes in almost £140,000 a year from the controversial industry while juggling his role as chairman of the select committee. --Gary Peev, Daily Mail, 14 August 2012

In the ongoing debates (to use a generous description) over climate change, global warming, call it what you will, much emphasis has been placed on ‘peer review’. In my view this emphasis is misplaced. Myself, I have had published over 130 peer-reviewed research papers, and I have been the peer-reviewer for a larger number, as one might expect. In inspecting a paper submitted for consideration of publication by any journal my three main aims are to identify any errors (if I can) in order to save others from being misled, to save the authors and the editor/journal from any embarrassment, and to make constructive (although sometimes necessarily harsh) criticisms regarding how I think the paper might be improved. What I do not and cannot do is to guarantee that the scientific content of the paper is entirely valid and correct.  --Duncan Steel, The Global Warming Policy Foundation, 13 August 2012

Two states have petitioned the White House to stay the ethanol mandate for one year, so farmers can feed their livestock. The Obama administration, instead, announced it is going to buy the livestock the farmers cannot feed, and donate it to food pantries.

Cash for cluckers! Here we go again... :o

Ironically Alberta has had a very wet summer. It's been raining every couple days.

If the heat and drought are proof of global warming what is the insesant rain proof of... Weather you say? :o

Gee, to see the UN actually make a recommendation that is not only good for humans but also basically against their long-term agenda of population decrease and poverty. Maybe there is hope.

Yes, there has been a drought, but it is not as widespread as advertised. Basically, in Iowa and surrounding states they are very used to always having bumper crops, nearly always larger and larger. This year's harvest will be a bumper crop that we were very happy with 15 years ago. It's still a lot of corn, just not up to our sometimes unrealistic expectations.

I contend that there is always a disaster in some part of the corn belt—too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet, too whatever.

With the incredibly stupid and unreasonable drain of corn or any crop to make biofuels driving up the cost of crops for food, it is unacceptable that anyone defend the practice saying it's good for the country.

An honest assessment of the "cost" of biofuels is 1.3 gallons of oil or gas for every gallon of ethanol. That's just stupidity squared. However, they love to massage the data and pretend that numbers are the other way around, but they leave out the equipment and land used expenses and the cost of making the equipment and other materials used. They also love to forget that ethanol has a lower energy content than hydrocarbons, ignoring the fact that ethanol destroys wealth by destroying engines. That makes the bottom line unacceptable.

If biofuels were actually viable, they would be able to make more biofuel than they burn and have no need for ANY outside fuel. That is NOT the case.

www.google.co.uk/.../ Keep your eye on this site, well worth subscribing to see what the b..tards are up to and how much of our money they are spending to solve a problem that does not exist by creating a problem that will be blamed on us.

Hey Me! Not sure where you went... :o

I can say that I believe he is an agnostic. ;-)

But that is all I gathered, aside from his easily understood misunderstanding of history, and origins of evil.
