[h/t to Kevin] Astronomers are saying that Earth's climate modellers have accurately predicted Mars' climate, therefore the models must be accurate for Earth. Anyone else see what's wrong with this picture? Chime in your thoughts after the jump. From MSNBC via Reuters, natch:

Astronomers say computer models have accurately forecast conditions on Mars and are valid predictors of climate change on Earth.

These computer programs predicted Martian glaciers and other features on Earth's planetary neighbor, a U.S.-French team of scientists found.

"Some public figures imply that modeling of global climate change on Earth is 'junk science,' but if climate models can explain features observed on other planets, then the models must have at least some validity," lead researcher William Hartmann of the Planetary Science Institute said Tuesday in a statement.

The team's findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society's planetary sciences division in Reno, Nev.

Yes! They have finally quantified the Martian cloud and ocean forcings! :o

My bad. I forgot about the water vapor feedbacks that will melt both poles, and lead to a catastrophic sea level rise, and a new Venus. ;-)

Earth and Mars are similar as celestial objects only. They are terrestrial planets occupying neighboring orbits around the same star. Beyond that, any idea that these planets are alike is sheer fantasy.

As Gator highlighted, Earth has a hydrosphere which Mars lacks. More than that, Mars is tectonically dead. It's core has solidified; therefore, it has no magnetosphere either which serves as a highly essential protective shield for our planet.

Anybody who has the nerve to present a scholarly body of work that claims that Earth and Mars are similar should be declared a true dilettante--utterly unqualified for his field.

Astronomers say? So where are these predictions they speak of?

Cause they have yet to explaine the last 16 years of no warming, that NONE of the models predicted.
