CNN: We were helping out the slow kid. "On why Obama got more time to speak, it should be noted that Candy and her commission producers tried to keep it even but that Obama went on longer largely because he speaks more slowly. We’re going to do a word count to see whether, as in Denver, Romney actually got more words in even if he talked for a shorter period of time." www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2012/10/cnn-explains.php

Can't wait for this weekends NFL Browns game... they move the ball more slowly than anyone so should get a bunch of extra time from the refs!!!

A solar company that got a multi-million-dollar grant from the Department of Energy earlier this year announced Wednesday that it will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, making it the second taxpayer-backed green energy company to file for bankruptcy this week." blog.heritage.org/2012/10/18/another-doe-backed-solar-company-goes-bankrupt/

Should we continue the 'peak oil' myth? "(2012 US oil production)... is already an increase of 27 per cent from what may be remembered as the Trough of 2008—with fracking still barely off the ground in oil-producing areas like California’s Monterey Shale. In short, “peak oil” has turned upside-down. That is awkward for those who insist that the descent in production, once the Hubbert oil peak has passed, must be irreversible, rapid, and accompanied by pervasive social and economic chaos. The history in Canada is perhaps equally awkward: Canadian oil production still has not peaked, as the “unconventional” tar sands and the products of fracking took over from conventional oil with a smooth, easy gradualness that didn’t factor into the catastrophists’ plans at all." www2.macleans.ca/2012/10/18/awash-in-oil/

The "Peak Oil" theory has been refuted by reality. The simple fact is markets react to any shortage and adapt.

German electricity costs skyrocket in January because of turning off nukes? "The country's four main grid operators said Monday that households will from January see a nearly 50 percent rise in the tax they pay to finance the switchover — from €3.6 cents to €5.3 cents ($6.7 cents) per kilowatt hour. A typical family of four will pay about €250 ($324) per year under the tariff, including a sales tax." www.seattlepi.com/news/article/German-tax-to-finance-renewable-energy-skyrockets-3948726.php#photo-3593847

Here in Ontario our highest electric rate is 11.7cents/KwH at peak!!!! Our TOTAL off-peak rate is 6.5cents/KwH!!!!! The German tax is more than my cost!!!!

WTF??????????????

The UK Met have responded to Mail's article showing warming stopped 16 yrs ago.

Their reply is so full of half truths, misrepresentations and outright lies, that you would have thought it came from a politician, not a supposedly objective set of scientists.

Of course it might have something to do with the 200 jobs and £17 million in funding they get for the Hadley Centre's climate research.

Anne

Did you hear the Union Leader Bob Crowe on BBC's Any Questions, hilarious, he made the passionate plea for us all to 'Go Solar and Wind in order to save my children's children from suffocating in a world coated in CO2!' he went on to attack Nigel Farrage 'People like you seem oblivious to the fact that here we are in October, there are leaves on the trees and we are walking around in tee shirts and shorts sweating, that alone should tell you that we have an environmental problem and we have got to solve it' the scary thing is, he got a huge applause from the audience, however, it was the BBC! a barrel of laughs though.

Your premise seems to be that because "Bigfoot believers outnumber those who believe in AGW," therefore there is a consensus that Bigfoot exists. But your logic is false because the possibility of Bigfoot believers being in the minority is not excluded by the article's title.

Instead I think you should argue that the majority of Bigfoot experts believe that Bigfoot is real and is a real threat to humanity. This way you can garner leverage from idiots who think that a consensus amongst a small group of whacky nut jobs who call themselves experts must be telling the truth.

How you can somehow blame the existence of Bigfoot on some taxable entity I'm not really too sure about. But hey... they did it with CO2. Right?

Hi Joker, yes, very selective who they invite onto the panels at the BBC, they have to be of a certain 'mindset'. I didn't see it but rarely watch telly these days. I do listen to radio 4 at times and they manage to thread AGW through every topic, I do swear at the radio from time to time and often turn it off.

wattsupwiththat.com/2012/10/21/sunshade-geoengineering-people-apparently-have-been-in-the-midday-sun-too-long/ Hi again Joker, you might be interested in reading both of these articles, the comments are also worth a scan through. Hope you and Mrs Joker are both well. I went to a protest over Haworth way on Saturday (Bronte country), it was a really good turn out and I was surprised that a large coach load of US citizens were among the crowd. Will try and attach some photo's when I get the chance.

Jeeez Anne this is monstrous, at present here in Hampshire we don't have too many, we see the odd one (usually not turning) but even that is bad enough, the local area where Mrs Joker and I live is apparently not suitable as it is too sheltered and low lying, however up on the hills which shelter us is a different matter, I'm surprised there have'nt been any planning applications, there is an 'Eco Town' planned for when the Army move from the local area to Wiltshire but no one knows when that is going to happen so for the time being we appear to be quite safe, but we are not complacent.

These wind turbines get scarier and scarier and the figures whichever way I have looked at them just don't add up. We will have to keep building and building them until no land is left. and yes I thought a long tima ago that maintaining the things could never be cost effective.
